
Oil pump in an engine pumps oil from oil pan to the other parts including bearings, connecting rods, cylinder head, valves, etc. In other words, oil pump is the heart of an engine. In an internal combustion reciprocating engine, the crank case encloses the crankshaft.
In an internal combustion piston engine, the crank case is the largest enclosure in the engine. In a car engine, engine oil is collected at the bottom of the crank case, namely, the oil sump, so that it can be cooled before being returned to the engine.
The crank case protects the crankshaft and connecting rods against external objects.
The water pump is used for circulating the cooling liquid at high velocity through different parts inside the engine. Though designed in different shapes (depending on the engine type), water pumps have similar mechanisms. In general, a water pump is made of aluminum to provide suitable resistance against oxidation (rusting) and wear as well as to conduct electricity. Water pump is installed on the cylinder.
